How to Handle the Mental Whiplash of Being a CEO, Mom, and Everything in Between

You Were 10 Different Women Before 8 AM. No Wonder You’re Exhausted.

How many roles did you play this morning?

If you’re like most of our clients, your day started with being the alarm clock, the breakfast chef, the logistics queen, and the emotional support animal — all before 9 AM. Then you’re supposed to show up at your desk as the calm, focused CEO with a strategic brain and a coffee in hand.

That emotional whiplash? It’s not a productivity problem. It’s a nervous system one.

The Real Problem: You’re Not Unfocused — You’re Unregulated

In this episode of the Serendipitous Rebel Podcast, we talk about something that doesn’t get enough airtime in the online business world: transitions.

What we’ve learned — and what our clients constantly echo — is that the pressure to perform in all the roles, all the time, leads straight to burnout. It’s not just about wearing too many hats. It’s the lack of intentional white space between the role of mom, wife, CEO, and friend that leads to emotional depletion.

Here’s What to Try Instead

🧠 Name the Transition

Say it out loud: “I’m taking off my CEO hat and putting on my mom hat.” This small verbal cue helps regulate your nervous system and signals your brain to shift states.

💨 Breathe (Literally)

One deep breath before hopping from one Zoom to the next can do wonders. Don’t underestimate it. Take a beat. Stretch. Yawn. Yawn dramatically.

☕ Build In Recovery Time

Running from one role to another with zero pause is a recipe for collapse. Schedule 10-minute white space buffers between major roles or tasks. Yes, you have time for that.

🗓️ Batch Your Energy, Not Just Tasks

We’re big fans of time-blocking — not just by tasks, but by identity. Mondays might be strategy-only days. Tuesdays can hold client calls. Don’t pepper your calendar with tasks that require radically different mental modes.

Creating a Business That Matches Your Life

One of the biggest mindset shifts we coach on is unlearning hustle culture and rebuilding structure your way. Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean every minute must be productive.

When you allow transitions, you allow space for creativity, clarity, and (dare we say it) joy. That’s how you build a business that feels good to run.
